Is Your Sintering Furnace Losing Its Reputation? It May Not Be The Heating Element — It Is The Wrong High-Temperature Mesh Belt

Nov 03, 2026

When the mesh belt fails, the entire production line grinds to a halt.

Customers rarely first suspect "the mesh belt is faulty". Instead, they tend to think the furnace itself is defective. Once a sintering furnace is delivered, customers will not remember which brand of temperature controller you adopted, nor how thick the furnace insulation layer is. What they truly value is non-stop stable operation and no workpiece deformation.

The component most likely to fail inside the furnace is often not the high-cost heating element, but the high-temperature mesh belt that runs continuously for dozens of hours at around 1000°C.

For sintering furnace OEMs, properly matched high-temperature mesh belts serve as an after-sales firewall. Accurate selection specifications, clear installation handover and traceable material records help cut unplanned downtime, reduce compensation risks, and bring repeat orders and customer referrals.

Today we break down three common pitfalls equipment manufacturers easily run into when sourcing sintering furnace mesh belts, and how to avoid them.

1. Mismatched material halves service life

Many OEMs default to SUS310S or 314 for mesh belts. Yet even among domestic high-temperature alloys, wire sourced from reputable steel mills and processed by professional wire drawing manufacturers can deliver a service life 30% longer than regular mesh belt wire.

When choosing mesh belt materials, check these points:

  • Origin steel mill and whether the heat number can be traced;
  • Whether the wire adopts "double drawing & double annealing" or "single drawing & single annealing";
  • For imported materials, whether the manufacturer's inspection certificates are available alongside material test reports.

2. Selection built on experience rather than actual working conditions

There is a wide range of high-temperature mesh belt designs. Before finalizing the belt, clarify three core factors: What product is being sintered?

  • Powder metallurgy: heavy workpieces requiring strong load capacity → K2W / A2W double-spiral mesh belt
  • Electronic ceramics: small, delicate parts prone to damage, requiring excellent surface flatness → A4 compound mesh belt

What atmosphere exists inside the furnace?

  • Air (oxidizing atmosphere): SUS310S (temperature resistance up to 1090°C), AISI314 (temperature resistance up to 1150°C) are suitable.
  • Hydrogen / ammonia decomposition (reducing atmosphere): ordinary stainless steel cannot withstand it; Inconel nickel-based alloy is required to avoid carburizing embrittlement.
  • Chlorine / fluorine-containing atmosphere: highly corrosive; special nickel-based alloys are required. Wrong material selection will lead to belt perforation within months.

How heavy are the workpieces?

Higher surface load calls for thicker support rods and larger wire diameters. Even with the same material, heavy loads accelerate high-temperature creep and shorten belt life.

KTK recommendation: for sintering furnace mesh belt selection, confirm working conditions first, then material, and lastly belt structure. A professional supplier provides a complete selection solution instead of simple dimensions such as "600 mm wide, 12 m long". It includes belt style, alloy grade, key parameters (wire diameter, pitch, support rod spacing and diameter), and suggested replacement cycle for preventive maintenance. Handing over selection records to customers demonstrates accountability and also protects you. If issues arise later, you can tell whether it stems from improper selection or misuse, instead of taking blame blindly.

3. No reserved allowance for thermal expansion and tension leads to belt drift when heated

This pitfall lies in installation. High-temperature mesh belts expand significantly between ambient temperature and 1000°C. A 10-meter stainless steel mesh belt expands roughly 150–180 mm when heated from 25°C to 1000°C.

If the belt is tensioned too tight in cold condition, thermal elongation triggers creep deformation. Consequences include belt drift, friction against furnace walls, jamming or even belt breakage. That means costly after-sales trips and dissatisfied customers.

Three key installation guidelines:

  • Reserve slack for thermal expansion; never fully tension the belt when cold. The allowance depends on belt length, material and operating temperature.
  • Ensure precise parallelism of driving rollers. Misaligned rollers are the top cause of belt drift. Minor high-temperature deformation of the furnace body must also be considered during installation.
  • The tensioning device must have sufficient travel, exceeding the maximum thermal elongation of the belt. Many OEMs only design tension travel for cold-state dimensions, hitting the limit once temperature rises.

Matching mesh belts builds your after-sales firewall

To circle back: what shapes the reputation of a sintering furnace? Consistent stable operation and minimal breakdowns. As the core continuously running component inside the furnace, the reliability and service life of the high-temperature mesh belt directly shape customers' overall impression of your furnace.

A well-selected mesh belt reduces downtime and complaints for customers, cutting your after-sales workload and claim risks. Poorly matched belts cause frequent failures; customers blame the furnace, and your team is overwhelmed with after-sales support.

Sourcing sintering furnace mesh belts is far more than purchasing a standard belt. You need a reliable partner who understands working conditions, provides proper selection and offers installation guidance.
