Flat Wire Belt VS Round Wire Belt: Selection Guide For Glass Annealing Furnaces
Oct 29, 2026
The mesh belt for glass annealing furnaces directly impacts glass yield and line stability. Many buyers struggle to tell the practical differences between our flat-wire K2 and round-wire K2 belts, the two most common K2 weave types for glass annealing. This guide compares them and gives clear selection advice based on real glass-factory operating conditions.
Glass annealing furnaces cool formed glass slowly at 400–600°C for items such as bottles, tumblers, tubes and tableware. Unlike high-temperature sintering furnaces, the priority here is not extreme heat resistance, but superior surface flatness and conveying stability to avoid scratches and tipping.
Key Comparison
Flat Wire K2:
Larger contact area, ultra-flat belt surface, low pressure on glass bottoms. It greatly reduces indent marks and keeps lightweight thin-walled glass stable to prevent tipping. Cost is moderately higher.
Round Wire K2:
Raised, uneven wire profile creates circular indentations on glass bases. Small or lightweight containers tip more easily. Its main advantage is lower upfront cost.
Application Recommendations
Choose flat wire K2 for premium glassware including goblets, wine glasses, clear thin-walled bottles, or lines suffering from high tipping rates and visible bottom indentations. The wide contact surface distributes load evenly, cutting rejects and unplanned downtime.
Choose round wire K2 for standard industrial glass packaging such as sauce and vinegar bottles, where visual requirements are relaxed and cost control is a priority. It works well for heavy, wide-base glass articles that are less prone to tipping.
Material Advice
SUS304 stainless steel is sufficient for 400–600°C annealing service. 310S and 314 grades are engineered for temperatures above 900°C; using them here is overspecified and unnecessarily costly. Upgrade to 316L only if acidic or alkaline corrosion exists on site.
Summary
Weave structure matters more than material grade for glass annealing belts. Pick flat wire K2 for high cosmetic standards and anti-tipping performance; select round wire K2 for cost-sensitive, standard-grade glass production. The right belt design raises finished yield and lowers long-term maintenance.
