First, many technicians tension new belts to full working tension in cold condition. Excessive cold tension will become far higher after thermal expansion, accelerating metal creep and leading to premature breakage. The correct operation is to keep the belt loose during installation with a sag of 30 millimeters per meter. Fine-tune the tension only after the furnace gradually reaches the rated working temperature.
Second, wear on transition plates at the furnace inlet and outlet is often overlooked. Grooves formed by long-term abrasion will continuously rub against the belt edges, breaking edge wires long before the end of service life. Inspect these transition plates every three months. Once wear depth exceeds 2 mm, repair the surface by surfacing welding or replace the plates directly.
Third, misaligned and uneven carrier rollers cause serious problems. Non-parallel rollers make the mesh belt wander and snake sideways, creating excessive stress on one side. Operators need to adopt a laser alignment instrument to guarantee all rollers stay strictly parallel.
Fourth, untreated welded joints bring hidden troubles. Weld beads scratch the furnace lining, while falling welding slag contaminates sintered finished products. All butt welds should be ground smoothly to match the thickness of the base metal.
Fifth, insufficient furnace cleaning causes mechanical jamming. Carbon deposits and oxide scale get stuck inside belt hinges, resulting in local blockage and tearing. Enterprises should compile standard operating maintenance procedures and add regular belt inspections and furnace cleaning to maintenance rules.
Sixth, insufficient travel reserve on tensioners shortens usable travel. After the mesh belt stretches under high temperature, the tensioner will hit the bottom and lose adjusting capacity. During initial installation, set the tensioner at one-third of its total travel, and leave the remaining two-thirds to compensate for thermal elongation.
Seventh, joining belt sections made of different alloys is a frequent mistake. Varied thermal expansion coefficients create concentrated stress at joints, triggering frequent fractures. The entire conveyor belt should adopt identical material and weaving specifications. When splicing new sections, ensure the spiral coil count is fully consistent with the original belt.
